Successful Metro Trails Grant!

We are excited to announce that the Metro Council voted unanimously this week to support Neighbors For Smart Growth’s North Johnson Creek Trail Extension project as part of Metro’s Nature In The Neighborhoods Trails Grants program.

First and foremost, we are immensely appreciative of the amazing community partners that have committed to help us implement the grant (partners listed below), as well as the Metro Council and staff who make the Nature In The Neighborhoods program possible.

Project Overview
The $33,600 grant award will help us plan a soft-surface nature trail and perform riparian restoration along North Johnson Creek between SW 90th and 95th Avenues in Washington County. Located within ½ mile of Sunset Transit Center, the proposed trail will provide essential off-street pedestrian access to schools, medical facilities, and the surrounding Transit Oriented community. In addition, the trail will enhance the natural experience of Regional Trail users as they pass alongside the stream corridor. Project goals include encouraging active recreation, protecting the riparian corridor, improving community health, and fostering a positive environmental ethic.Auditorium
